Accsys Technologies is a chemical technology company enhancing the natural properties of wood to make high performance and sustainable building products. Its processes are based on the acetylation of solid wood and wood elements.

Equity Proposition

Accsys Technologies is a London- and Amsterdam-listed company with a market capitalisation of c £135m that manufactures premium, high-performance wood products under the Accoya and Tricoya brands. What sets Accsys apart is its unique acetylation process that creates sustainable wood products suited for demanding outdoor applications requiring durability and stability.

There are five compelling reasons why Accsys represents an attractive investment opportunity.

  • First, Accsys has created a differentiated product in a traditional market. The company has developed proprietary acetylation technology that transforms ordinary softwood into a product rivalling or exceeding tropical hardwoods in performance. As the only company worldwide with established acetylation manufacturing facilities (in Arnhem, Netherlands and Kingsport, USA), Accsys has created a significant competitive moat. This chemical process fundamentally changes the wood’s cellular structure, creating moisture-resistant properties that ordinary timber simply cannot match.
  • Second, the company’s products’ performance advantages create compelling value despite premium pricing. Accsys’s products deliver exceptional dimensional stability, reducing swelling and shrinkage by 75% compared to untreated wood. It offers durability exceeding even the most rot-resistant tropical hardwoods, with a 50-year above-ground and 25-year below-ground warranty. This extraordinary longevity means that, while the initial cost may be higher, the lifetime value proposition is compelling. This is particularly true for architects and contractors who rate Accoya and Tricoya as superior to alternatives across multiple performance categories.
  • Third, Accsys’s addressable market opportunity is substantial and growing. With current market penetration of less than 1% in the US and around 5% in the UK for applications like cladding, decking, windows and doors, Accsys has room for significant expansion. Market trends are firmly in the company’s favour, with increasing regulatory pressure against tropical deforestation, growing sustainability requirements in construction and demand for materials that reduce maintenance cycles. While the global construction materials market is projected to grow at 4–6% annually until 2030, Accsys is positioned to outpace this growth rate as it scales operations across Europe, North America and Asia.
  • Fourth, new leadership is transforming the business with an operational focus. Accsys has undergone a significant leadership transformation, bringing in executives with deep expertise from the chemicals, manufacturing and building products sectors. This management team has already implemented decisive changes, such as streamlining operations, strengthening the balance sheet and focusing on operational excellence. Accsys’s ‘Focus’ strategy emphasises creating a scalable platform for growth, expanding distribution networks and fostering an engaged workforce in a sustainable environment.
  • Finally, the company has set ambitious but achievable targets for 2030. During its investor day in January 2025, Accsys outlined clear financial targets for FY30 based on realistic capacity expansion plans, current market penetration rates and demonstrated pricing power. These include a 14% compound annual growth rate for volumes and revenue from its Arnhem and Kingsport facilities, with a projected fivefold increase in adjusted group EBITDA from c €10.5m in FY25 to €54m by FY30. Additionally, the company aims to eliminate net debt by FY30, with free cash flow estimated to improve from €6m in FY26 to €21m in FY30. Discounted cash flow analysis indicates a value per share of 83p or €1, highlighting significant potential upside from current trading levels.

For investors seeking exposure to sustainable materials, with genuine competitive advantages and growth potential, Accsys presents a compelling opportunity that’s still flying under the radar.
