Newron Pharmaceuticals is focused on the central nervous system. Xadago for Parkinson’s disease (PD) is sold in Europe, Japan, the United States and other regions. Evenamide, a novel schizophrenia add-on therapy, is involved in a Phase III trial programme targeting schizophrenia.

Equity Proposition

Newron Pharmaceuticals is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on developing novel therapies for central nervous system (CNS) disorders. The company is progressing its lead asset, evenamide, through late-stage development for treatment-resistant schizophrenia (TRS), a disease area with limited innovation in recent years and, hence, one with a potentially sizable commercial opportunity.

There are five key reasons why Newron may be considered a compelling investment opportunity:

1. Addressing a major unmet need in healthcare.

Schizophrenia remains one of the most challenging psychiatric disorders, with many patients failing to adequately control symptoms despite current therapies. While antipsychotics have transformed treatment, many patients continue to experience persistent symptoms, and there are currently no approved add-on therapies specifically for TRS. This represents a significant unmet need and an attractive opportunity for innovation. Interest in novel CNS assets has also strengthened as pharma companies seek differentiated late-stage programmes for underserved patient populations. Schizophrenia represents a sizable market, and therapies showing meaningful benefit have historically achieved blockbuster sales. If successfully developed, evenamide has the potential to address this opportunity with limited direct competition.

 2. Evenamide is supported by encouraging clinical data in TRS.

Evenamide is being developed as an add-on therapy for patients with TRS, a population poorly served by current treatment options. Evenamide has a novel mechanism of action, targeting glutamate signalling (a key pathway involved in brain function that is not directly addressed by most existing antipsychotics), which may allow it to complement existing treatments. Top-line results from the prior TRS clinical trial showed that more than 70% of patients achieved a clinically meaningful reduction in condition severity, c 50% of patients no longer met the protocol severity criteria for a diagnosis of TRS and 25% of patients were described as achieving clinical remission. These findings provide a supportive foundation for the subsequent registrational programme.

3. Defined path through registrational development with upcoming catalysts.

Evenamide is progressing through the registrational ENIGMA-TRS programme. The two associated studies (ENIGMA-TRS 1 and ENIGMA-TRS 2) are expected to build on the encouraging data generated to date. Top-line results from the first of these studies are anticipated in Q426, representing a significant upcoming potential catalyst. In addition, potential further partnering discussions may provide incremental value drivers as the programme advances.

4. Strategic partnerships provide external validation of evenamide’s potential.

Newron has already secured regional licensing agreements for evenamide with EA Pharma in Japan and Myung In Pharm in South Korea. These deals provide third-party validation of the asset’s potential, particularly given the complexity and risk associated with CNS drug development. Beyond validation, these partnerships offer access to local development expertise and potential commercial infrastructure in key markets, while also providing financial support through upfront payments, milestones and future royalties. This approach may allow Newron to retain strategic flexibility while advancing the programme globally.

5. Proven commercial capabilities.

Newron’s marketed Parkinson’s disease therapy, Xadago, demonstrates the company’s ability to successfully develop and commercialise a CNS drug. Xadago’s approval provides validation of Newron’s development capabilities and a degree of revenue visibility. This established commercial foundation differentiates Newron from earlier-stage peers and may support future execution as pipeline assets approach the market. It also highlights management’s experience in navigating the regulatory and commercial pathways within complex neurological indications.

In summary, Newron Pharmaceuticals presents a focused investment case centred on evenamide in TRS, supported by encouraging clinical data, external validation through partnerships, a clear development pathway and an established commercial track record. Together, these elements underpin the company’s positioning within the CNS-focused biotechnology landscape.
