Edison’s investment companies team recently published a review of Martin Currie Global Portfolio Trust (ticker: MNP), which is managed by Zehrid Osmani. In an environment where major central bank monetary policy is data dependent, the manager expects continued share price volatility, which should ultimately favour the trust’s portfolio of high-quality growth businesses with strong cash flows and robust balance sheets. MNP has a straightforward equity portfolio with no derivatives and has exposure to three important growth themes – an aging global population, the transition to green energy and the growth in artificial intelligence (AI). Graphics chip manufacturer NVIDIA is widely expected to be a major beneficiary of the growth in AI and has been in the portfolio since 2021; it is now the largest holding at around 10%. Osmani has an unconstrained investment approach, which is evidenced by a notable underweight US exposure.
