bp (LSE: BP) – Ian Tyler appointed chair
Published by Harry Kilby

bp has appointed Ian Tyler as chair with immediate effect, following an extensive search process including internal and external candidates. Tyler joined the bp board as a non-executive director in April 2025 and was appointed interim chair on 26 May 2026. He has worked alongside more than 15 chief executives during an extensive non-executive career spanning listed and private companies across oil and gas, natural resources and engineering. He is currently chair of Grafton Group and senior independent director of Anglo American, and he has previously chaired Cairn Energy and served as a non-executive director of BAE Systems.

Tyler stated that he will focus on the evolution of the board, ensuring it has the depth, experience and capabilities required to support bp’s strategic priorities and long-term value creation, alongside regular and transparent shareholder engagement. bp also announced that senior independent director Dame Amanda Blanc will not stand for re-election at the 2027 AGM and will step down from the board once a successor has been appointed.
