bp (LSE: BP) successfully executed the sale of a 5% stake in Aker BP for NOK9.83bn ($1.06bn), reducing its holding from 15.9% to approximately 10.9%. The disposal was completed at NOK311 per share and leaves bp with 68.7m Aker BP shares, subject to a 90-day lock-up on the remaining holding.
The proceeds will be used to strengthen bp’s balance sheet and increase expected FY26 divestment and other proceeds to around $9bn, c $1bn above previous guidance. Management highlighted Aker BP’s strong recent performance and favourable macro environment as supporting the timing of the partial monetisation, while bp retains a material interest in the business. The transaction also supports bp’s stated priority to strengthen its balance sheet as it builds a simpler, stronger and more valuable company.
