In our last note, we discussed the new functionality Checkit had developed to help customers make use of the data generated on its platform. The company has now commercialised this with the launch of Asset Intelligence, a product module that applies advanced analytics and machine learning to internet of things (IoT) data to analyse the condition of monitored appliances in order to predict issues before they escalate, identify operational inefficiencies and provide greater visibility of asset performance. Pre-launch customer trials indicated that customers should expect at least a 50% improvement in the return on investment of Checkit’s IoT sensors and substantial reductions in CO2.
The company has also announced new contract wins from two existing customers. The first customer, an integrated energy company (we believe BP), has signed a contract worth £252k over three years. This will provide real-time operations management capability to 50 franchisees in the UK and will be installed in tranches over the course of FY25. Franchises for this customer represent double the opportunity compared to owned locations globally and Checkit expects further business expansion with this customer during FY25. The second customer, a multinational outsourced food service company (we believe Compass), has signed several contracts worth at least £165k over three years for the provision of connected automated monitoring and connected workflow management products for end users in four additional locations. This follows on from three contracts signed with this customer in FY24. We maintain our forecasts pending FY24 results on 25 April.

Research: Investment Companies
abrdn Asian Income Fund (AAIF) recently posted an upbeat set of results. In FY23, the company outperformed its reference index (MSCI AC Asia Pacific ex Japan), there was a significant increase in the dividend, which was fully covered and has now risen for 15 consecutive years, and AAIF’s board has negotiated a more competitive fee structure. AAIF is managed by abrdn’s well-established Singapore-based Asian equity team. This location is an advantage in terms of communication and developing strong corporate/organisational relationships, along with seeking opportunities that may be overlooked by other Asian equity investors. AAIF’s portfolio holds some of the most successful Asian companies as well as younger firms with promising futures.
