Isar Aerospace, a rocket launch company and portfolio holding of Molten Ventures, announced on 5 September 2026 a successful launch and delivery of satellites into orbit by its Spectrum vehicle during its ‘Onward and Upward’ mission. As of the time of the announcement, the company was confirming the satellite status with customers. The launch completes the first important milestone under the European Space Agency’s European Launcher Challenge programme, which requires participating launch providers to demonstrate a successful orbital launch by end-2027. Isar Aerospace signed a €197.8m contract under the programme on 27 August 2026.
At end-March 2026, Isar Aerospace represented c 2.6% of its gross portfolio value. Subsequently, Molten Ventures invested €30m in Isar’s €270m Series D round in June 2026. Isar Aerospace offers a fully integrated space access, covering the entire value chain from designing and operating launch pad infrastructure to engineering and launching its in-house-developed two-stage Spectrum vehicle which has a payload capacity of 1,000kg to low Earth orbit or 700kg to sun-synchronous orbit. In July 2026, the company and Maritime Launch Services signed a contract under which Isar Aerospace will develop a dedicated launch complex for its Spectrum launch vehicle at Spaceport Nova Scotia in Canada, which is being developed as the country’s dual-use orbital spaceport. This is in addition to its current launch site in Andøya, Norway.
We believe that Isar Aerospace’s successful orbital launch represents a substantial reduction in development risk and provides it with a valuable lead among Europe’s emerging launch providers. The next important milestone for the company will be to demonstrate repeatability, launch frequency and economics through subsequent launches. Isar Aerospace highlighted recently that Spectrum vehicles numbered three to seven are already in production and its new 40,000sqm facility, which is due to open in 2026, will eventually have capacity to manufacture up to 40 launch vehicles per year.
