BB Biotech reported positive Q326 performance, with NAV rising 5.6% in Swiss franc terms, although this lagged the Nasdaq Biotechnology Index by 6.4pp as benchmark gains were concentrated in a small number of companies outside its portfolio. The share price generated a total return of 6.5%, narrowing the discount to NAV from 12.9% to 12.2% at 30 September 2026. The quarter saw three portfolio companies receive US drug approvals, alongside the completion of acquisitions involving Crinetics Pharmaceuticals and Nuvalent, taking the number of portfolio companies involved in completed acquisitions during 2026 to five. BION redeployed c CHF280m of proceeds from these transactions, initiating 12 new investments and exiting eight positions, bringing the portfolio to 43 holdings. New investments included more established biotechnology companies such as Biogen and Incyte, alongside smaller clinical-stage businesses, broadening exposure across different stages of drug development.
Management remains constructive on the sector’s medium-term outlook, supported by a strong pipeline of clinical and regulatory catalysts in Q426, while acknowledging continued US healthcare policy uncertainty and opportunities arising from the recent correction in smaller biotechnology companies.
