BioVersys is a privately held pharmaceutical company focused on developing small molecules for multidrug-resistant bacterial infections. As per the agreement, Unyvero’s HPN panel will be used as a rapid diagnostic test to enhance and optimize screening during patient enrolment for the upcoming BV100 Phase II clinical trial. This trial will assess BV100’s ability to address serious infections caused by carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii in patients with ventilator-associated bacterial pneumonia, hospital-acquired bacterial pneumonia and bloodstream infections. BV100 is intended to address a highly unmet need as these infections often result in mortality rates of around 50%.
OpGen’s solutions provide results in a few hours and can precisely identify microbes via their DNA. Unyvero’s HPN panel detects a wide array of pneumonia-causing pathogens and AMR markers, including 21 PCR assays for pneumonia-related microorganisms and 19 PCR assays for AMRs. Although specific terms were not disclosed, BioVersys will rent the Unyvero systems for the duration of the trial and purchase the associated pneumonia cartridges and consumables from Curetis, OpGen’s German subsidiary.
This collaboration and other recent wins (eg the contract for the Acuitas AMR Gene Panel Product with two large hospitals and an R&D collaboration with FIND) expands the utilization of OpGen’s overall franchise focused on addressing AMR.
