About the seminar

Edison is hosting an exclusive environmental, social and corporate governances (ESG) seminar at Edison’s London offices. The seminar will showcase four listed investment companies that offer different approaches to sustainable and environmentally beneficial investing, while generating attractive returns. The format will be short presentations from company representatives followed by Q&A and a networking lunch. The event will take place at Edison’s London office on 23 April 2020.

Speaking at the seminar

Charlie Thomas, Jupiter Green Investment Trust

Charlie-Thomas-Jupiter-Asset-ManagementCharlie Thomas is the manager of the Jupiter Ecology Fund and the Jupiter Responsible Income Fund (Unit Trusts), as well as institutional assets, the Jupiter Green Investment Trust PLC and the Jupiter Global Ecology Growth fund (SICAV). He joined Jupiter in 2000 and is currently Head of Strategy, Environment and Sustainability, he is also co-manager of the Jupiter Global Ecology Diversified fund (SICAV). Before joining Jupiter, Charlie spent three years working for BP, first as an environmental policy adviser where he helped develop climate change strategies and sustainable energy policies for the group, and later as a commercial analyst working on new business development. He has also worked for the United Nations Environment Programme as well as other financial institutions.

Ben Guest, Gresham House Energy Storage Fund

Ben Guest, Gresham HouseBen started his fund management career at Lazard Asset Management, before co-founding Cantillon Capital Management in 2003. In April 2007 he founded Hazel Capital (now Gresham House New Energy), subsequently serving as Managing Partner and Chief Investment Officer.

With over 25 years of investment experience, Ben’s expertise spans the investment spectrum, across infrastructure, public equities and venture capital. He is responsible for the origination and execution of investment opportunities at Gresham House, alongside ongoing portfolio management. Ben currently serves as a director of over 40 companies and until recently was the non-executive chairman of Oxis Energy, a UK-based advanced battery company. He holds a BEng in Mechanical Engineering from Imperial College, London.

Jonathan Maxwell, SDCL Energy Efficiency Income Trust

Jonathan, SDCLJonathan has over 20 years’ experience in international finance, infrastructure and private equity and has overall responsibility for the Investment Manager’s investment activities. Jonathan has a 82 strong track record, having worked in infrastructure, sustainable investment, business creation and management for 10 years. Since establishing the Investment Manager in London in 2007, the group now operates across the UK, Europe, North America and Asia and has launched energy efficiency project investment funds in the UK, Ireland, Singapore and New York with a net IRR target of over 10 per cent. Prior to establishing the Investment Manager, Jonathan was at HSBC Infrastructure and managed the IPO of HICL in 2006, the first Main Market, London Stock Exchange listed infrastructure fund, which now has an enterprise value of over £2 billion.

Chris Tanner, JLEN Environmental Assets Group

Chris Tanner, JLENChris joined Foresight in 2019 as a Partner and currently works in the London office with a co-lead responsibility to the JLEN fund. He has over 20 years’ experience as an infrastructure fund manager, an equity principal, a project director and an adviser. Before joining Foresight, Chris was a Director of John Laing Capital Management and was co-lead investment adviser to the JLEN fund.

Prior to this, Chris was a Principal in Henderson’s private equity infrastructure team, often working closely with John Laing on a range of special projects, including the buying of investments, corporate refinancing and valuations. For the 18 months prior to joining JLCM he was on secondment to John Laing, focused on renewable energy business as Corporate Finance Director. Before joining Henderson in 2007, Chris worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers for 11 years, including seven years in the infrastructure concessions team. Chris is a Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and has an MA in Politics, Philosophy and Economics from Oxford University.
