bp (LSE: BP) – Marketing of North Sea business supports portfolio simplification
Published by Harry Kilby

bp (LSE: BP) has launched a process to market its North Sea business for a potential sale, as part of its ongoing portfolio review and disciplined approach to capital allocation. The portfolio comprises five production hubs: Andrew and ETAP in the central North Sea, along with Glen Lyon, Clair and Clair Ridge west of Shetland. The business employs approximately 1,100 people, compared with 13,962 bp employees in the UK in 2025.

Management stated that the North Sea remains integral to the UK’s energy system, but believes the North Sea business may be better positioned under another owner as bp focuses capital on its highest-value opportunities. bp remains committed to operating the assets safely and reliably throughout the process, while retaining its UK headquarters and broader presence across aviation fuel, retail, electric vehicle charging, carbon capture and storage, offshore wind and supply, trading and shipping.
