Helios Underwriting — 1 video in collection
In this interview, Adhiraj Maitra, CFO of Helios Underwriting, discusses the company’s strategy and outlook. Despite its name, AIM-quoted Helios is by no means a conventional insurance company. Rather, it is an investment fund that uniquely offers investors exposure to Lloyd’s of London, the world’s largest specialist insurance and reinsurance market. It does this by participating in a diverse portfolio of syndicates, carefully selected and curated based on deep market knowledge and connections, and its proprietary research. The approach has proved successful, and Helios has significantly outperformed the Lloyd’s market over the past 10 years. Even more interesting for an investor, over the past 20 years, Lloyd’s has generated annualised returns on capital of c 11%, ahead of a range of equity, bond and real estate benchmarks and with relatively low correlation to them. Although insurance premium rates have been softening, higher interest rates are supporting investment income as insurers reinvest maturing assets at higher yields.
