Premier Global Infrastructure Trust – fund manager interview

Published on 22 June 2020

Premier Global Infrastructure Trust portfolio manager James Smith runs us through the trust’s big shift towards renewable energy, with exposure having more than doubled to over 60% of the portfolio so far this year. He outlines why renewable energy generation is likely to be the only area of electricity production where 2020 output will be higher than in 2019 and explains how the falling cost of production is benefiting longer-term investors. He also reflects on the COVID-19 pandemic and how it has affected both the renewables sector and his day-to-day life as a fund manager.

Premier Global Infrastructure aims to achieve a high income and realise long-term growth in the capital value of its portfolio by investing principally in the equity and equity-related securities of companies operating primarily in the energy and water sectors, as well as other infrastructure investments.
