Molten Ventures is a London-based venture capital (VC) firm that invests in the European technology sector. It has a portfolio of c 70 investee companies and includes a range of funds (seed, EIS and VCT) within the group, as well as its flagship balance sheet VC fund.

The company is listed on the London Stock Exchange, is a member of the UK 250 and is capitalised at c £530m (as at 1 November 2022), around one-third of the company’s gross portfolio value of £1.45bn as at 30 September 2022.

CEO Martin Davis discusses the company’s recent trading update, which saw a decrease in underlying gross portfolio of 12% to c £1.45bn. He also shares his views on how the shift to a more challenging economic environment will lead to a more discerning market for making portfolio investments, as well as Molten’s approach to creating a portfolio to help address these challenges. He rounds up by discussing the advice and support that Molten’s professionals are giving to portfolio companies to enable them to survive and thrive in turbulent times, expressing the view that great companies are often formed during downturns.
