Nanoco is the leading commercial supplier of cadmium-free quantum dots – fluorescent semiconductor nanoparticles typically between 10 and 100 atoms in diameter. These particles absorb or re-emit different colours of light depending on the size of the particle and can therefore be used in a number of different applications including LCD displays, lighting, medical applications and solar power. Display is the most advanced of these applications, where the company has a partnership with Dow Chemical, which has built a manufacturing facility capable of supporting millions of TVs in Korea. Nanoco also has its own manufacturing plant in Runcorn, UK which is used to produce quantum dots for development purposes and is suitable for commercial production for lower volume applications.
