MediaWatch Q224 in 60 seconds

The latest edition of Edison’s MediaWatch covers the quarter to end June 2024 and looks at changes to forecasts and valuations in that period in the media sector in the UK, Europe, and North America. It is encouraging to see that downgrades no longer outnumber upgrades, although there is still plenty of circumspection around the timing of more robust improvements. As well as looking at the detailed data on valuation compared to long-term trends, we also incorporate a new metric of prospective EV/ sales multiples versus prospective ebitda margins for 2024 to give a better sense of relative valuation within the sectors. We also provide some commentary on current key themes such as the spate of corporate restructures, the continuing saga of advertising cookie deprecation, improving UK advertising sentiment, and the in-tray of the new UK Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport.
