Ilika CEO Graeme Purdy explains the company’s transformation from a materials discovery business to one focused on developing solid state batteries, with development programmes that span mm-scale batteries for healthcare applications to the large-scale Goliath programme with automotive partners (Honda, Ricardo and McLaren). He describes the company’s business model through the commercialisation cycle and explains the steps required to commercialise the first products. Finally, he discusses Ilika’s balance sheet and explains that committed revenues should mean it has adequate cash resources to take the business through to year-end April 2020, even without the incremental revenues from licensing wins.
