Based in Sweden, ÅAC Microtec is a world leader in small satellite end-to-end solutions following its January 2018 merger with Clyde Space. The company offers a full range of satellites weighing from around 1kg to 50kg. In addition, it supplies a range of technology components to larger satellite manufacturers globally.
Alfonso Barreiro joined ÅAC Microtec as CEO in 2017. In this video, he gives an overview of the small satellite market and the growth opportunities it presents. He describes how the company’s goal is to be the leader in product quality and provide reliable tested platforms. He believes improved reliability would allow movement into other orbits and offer more integrated solutions. ÅAC Microtec’s growth strategy is based on deploying a larger number of satellites and constellations, and Alfonso sees a key catalyst in the multiplication of the opportunities for launch removing the need to wait for traditional launch methods. In addition, Alfonso views satellite as a service as a way to allow service providers to concentrate on delivering their products via a simple path to the space economy and ecosystem.
